A New Style for The Wall St Journal
posted: April 20, 2009
I do a lot of painted portraits for The Wall Street Journal, but last week I got an opportunity to try something quite a bit different. They needed a portrait of the artist Qiu Zhijie for their Asia edition, and in looking at the variety of work he's done, I was particularly struck by some of his woodcuts.

I decided it would be nice to try his portrait in my woodcut style, which I used for the book "Animals Darwin Saw" that came out this year. The only problem was, when I'd finished playing around with the color variations, I couldn't make up my mind which one I liked best.

I'm still not sure...
