Drawing the Candidates Show
posted: December 19, 2008
Nicholas Blechman of the New York Times contacted me a while back about using my painting of Sarah Palin and the Statue of Liberty in the exhibit at the NYT Gallery 7 show, "Drawing the Candidates, the Art of Political Caricature".
I'm swamped this week, but I had to dash over and take a look at my picture on the wall. The show chronicled political caricatures from Nixon's day up to the election this fall, with my picture hanging among about 30 portraits on the front wall and there was a large back wall papered with more.
I was mighty proud to see my painting hanging next to the likes of David Levine, Hanoch Piven, Barry Blitt and Steve Brodner! I could only stay long enough to get a shot to commemorate the event, and then back to work.
Thanks go to Nancy Stahl for launching her Women's Work gallery here on Drawger, which lit a fire under me this fall along with the appearance of Palin on the political scene. You can find my own gallery of political art on Drawger here.
