Susan Sarandon for The Wall St Journal

This Susan Sarandon portrait was an overnight job for Dave Bamundo for the weekend paper. She was being interveiwed about her recommendations for family movies, so they needed the Mom Sarandon, not the Super Glam and Sexy Sarandon. Though she looks pretty glam under any circumstances, I think.

When I was first painting her, I was playing down the bags under her eyes too much, but they're one of the defining characteristics of her face, and once I bumped them up a bit, her face started coming together.

Lately I've been doing a lot of jobs that are portraits of older guys, so it's really nice to paint a beautiful woman for a change. Plus, Dave cropped the painting in closer, so it looked really nice and big on the page.
Here are some of the sketches I submitted.
