Dwight Yoakam for the Wall Street Journal

Full length, in living color....
Art director and fellow Drawger Dave Bamundo called me to paint Dwight Yoakam for the Hit List feature in this past weekend's Journal. I wasn't really familiar with his music at all, not being up on the Nashville music scene at all, but my pal JD King told me he was really good. After checking out Yoakam's rockin' honky tonk sound on eMusic, I had to agree.

I usually work out the poses for these long, narrow portraits by modeling for them myself, but I found the cowboy poses hard to pull off; they all came out too girly with me in the saddle. So I rustled up my boyfriend, Barry, to do cowboy duty.
A few of the sketches....
